The Queens Head

79-80 West St, Tavistock PL19 8AQ, UK – 01822 612455

The food is really great quality and for an excellent price. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The location does make it a little tricky to park sometimes; however it is not too much of a hassle.

The service at the Queens Head was very good. They do seem to juggle the hotel responsibilities and that of the pub downstairs so checking in took a little longer than expected, but they were attentive and helpful. The room was great and the location was ideal. The street market for the Dickensian evening we attended was brilliant too. My kids loved the reindeer but that's only one day a year so check the diary if you're going to attend.

The Bedford Hotel

1 Plymouth Rd, Tavistock PL19 8BB, UK – 01822 613221

I had experienced the fantastic hospitality of the hotel as I came across a male collapsed on the floor outside the hotel and whilst caring for him and awaiting the ambulance, the hotel staff came out and offered their help including providing blankets, a first aid kit and even offering us tea. An amazing effort considering going they were not obliged to help.

Lovely room. Fantastic food. Great service.

The Duke of Tavistock Bed and Breakfast

48 Plymouth Rd, Tavistock PL19 8BU, UK – 01822 615171

Best bed I have slept in in years! The whole place is beautiful decorated and has a very comfortable, modern and stylish feel with quite large rooms. Tje HUGE rain shower was awesome. Lovely owners/managers and excellent breakfast.

I've never stayed there as I live locally, but I always pass it and look in longingly! If I was looking for a B&B in Tavistock, this is the first one I would try!

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Cornish Arms

15 West St, Tavistock PL19 8AN, UK – 01822 612145

Lovely food but bloody expensive. A side of peas £4. Same as what they pay their 17year old staff. Good eh! And that's fir working Christmas eve & New Years Eve.

Simply superb food that elevates this so far beyond your average pub. Possibly one of the best meals I have ever had with superb tastes and flavours throughout and perfect cooking. I started with the ham hock scotch egg and this was served with blue cheese which superbly complemented the rich egg. For a main I had the venison with juniper and pork belly and the combination of the venison and juniper was perfection. Finally I had the apple trifle served with an apple donut and green apple sorbet - so many variences on apple in a single dessert. Simply superb. Perfect service and venue as well. Highly recommended.

The Blacksmiths Arms

Lamerton, Tavistock PL19 8QR, UK – 01822 612962

Friendly welcome although not for dogs! Really wholesome and delicious homemade food and lots of choice. Lovely roaring wood burner and speedy service too. Really competitively priced and genuinely a great place to eat.

A real country free house. The original building is quite small but a tasteful extension has been added.A wide menu, plus specials, takes it beyond normal pub food.Good choice of drinks.Benifits from a large car park and a winter fire makes it cosy.

The Hollies Bed and Breakfast Tavistock

67 Parkwood Rd, Tavistock PL19 0HH, UK – 01822 617709

I stayed at The Hollies whilst doing the Devon Coast 2 Coast cycle ride. Although I only stayed for one night, it was a very pleasant experience. The room was very comfortable and nicely decorated with a large en-suite. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed a lovely cooked breakfast before leaving. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Hollies and will definitely stay there again if the opportunity arises.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Hollies. The room was well-decorated and very comfortable and the en-suite facilities excellent. Breakfast was an enjoyable meal, different every day and well-cooked. The owner was friendly and welcoming. We can definitely recommend this B&B as being extremely good value and a desirable place to stay.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Old Tavistock Railway Station

Quant Park, Tavistock PL19 0JQ, UK – 01822 610136

These cottages have the most lovely views of Dartmoor, but they are also very handy for Tavistock town centre, which has some great little independent shops. I thought they were further out than they are, looking at the map before visiting but they are just up the hill, just out of the way enough that they are nice and peaceful. They are rather beautifully fitted out too. Re: the other review about railways: this is actually Tavistock North station - if you look at the proposed re-opening of the Plymouth line, if that happens, it will go in at the other end of the town!

We stayed in the Refreshment Hall for three nights.Everything is to a very high standard and Colin and Jenny were most welcoming. We all enjoyed it very much and hope to go back September 2011

Cottages On Dartmoor and Tavistock Trout Fishery

Parkwood Rd, Tavistock PL19 9JW, UK – 01822 615441

Lovely location, the animals outside are wonderful. We arrived too late to fish though which was a shame.

Campsites and Caravan Parks

The Old Rectory Caravan & Camping Park

The Old Rectory, Gulworthy, Tavistock PL19 8JA, UK – 01822 481731

When looking through reviews you often find if a place has lots of very good reviews and one bad one, then, in my opinion, the person who wrote the bad review has the issue. We read the reviews on here, and elsewhere, but decided to chance it anyway. We were not disappointed. The Old Rectory is a fantastic place. The set up is brilliant, and we could not find fault. Declan and Sara were excellent hosts, and a mind full of information about the local area, and local history. Keep up the good work guys, and we hope all the things you have planned for the site all work out. I have a feeling that we will return again.

Just got back from a weekend there a beautiful campsite loved the chicken and ducks and tom/ jerry the ponys and pigs so peaceful with lovely views a real gem the owner are very friendly and very welcoming can wait to go a again and the home made sausages are out of this world thank you for a fantastic weekend highly recommend it sarah/ darren
