The Bedford Hotel

1 Plymouth Rd, Tavistock PL19 8BB, UK – 01822 613221

I've stayed at the Bedford a couple of times now while away on Business. Always have a nice stay. The rooms are large (if a tad cold) and the staff are always incredibly friendly and helpful. The lounge area downstairs is very cozy and nice to sit with a drink from the bar. Breakfast is always good although the coffee isn't great. Will definitely be coming back again. Have never eaten at the hotel but was very impressed with the menu when I took a glance at it the other evening. Might give it a go next time.

Visited for morning coffee and lunch. Service was very friendly and swift. Had a lovely cup of coffee and lunch was delicious. Would recommend.

Tavistock House Hotel

50 Plymouth Rd, Tavistock PL19 8BU, UK – 01822 481627

A beautiful, newly renovated B'n'B with 5* service from Brad and Gill, the owners. Just a couple of minutes walk into central Tavistock and we didn't find any issues in parking outside the hotel at all. Breakfast was fantastic. We would highly recommend staying here.

Without doubt the finest independently owned and run small hotel that I have stayed at in a long, long time. Beautifully appointed, comfortable and clean rooms, a generous choice of breakfast options which includes food that is superbly cooked. The friendly owners can't do enough to ensure that your stay is nothing short of perfect and that you will remember to come back another day...which I shall certainly do, I can't recommend this place enough!

The Queens Head

79-80 West St, Tavistock PL19 8AQ, UK – 01822 612455

Bright clean and modern hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. There is no parking but it is easy enough to park in nearby streets. There is extended food service in the pub attached to the hotel which is very convenient. Some minor details may be a bigger issue for some guests which include having to queue up in a sometimes rowdy bar to check in, slightly chilly rooms with no temperature control and a fair proportion of the menu often not being available. However for the price it is still great value and there are other restaurants nearby.

second stay here.. and once again staff friendly, room a good size and very clean.. with nice modern decor and furnishings. Bed amazingly comfortable, a mattress that just makes you want to lay in all morning with thick feather duvet and pillows to sink into. I didn't want to get out of bed!!! Breakfast was good. Pub area is welcoming and cozy set on the edge of the moors, lovely scenery around. A pretty little town with some individual shops. See you again soon.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Cornish Arms

15 West St, Tavistock PL19 8AN, UK – 01822 612145

Gorgeous food with inventive Sunday menu and lovely presentation. Good friendly service. Not cheap, but lunch was so good that I didn't feel I'd overpaid. Comfy seating. The place fills up quickly so I would advise booking. Bar area is separate from the two dining areas. Reasonably comfortable and supportive seats. Charming building. Decent toilets. Small car park to the rear for approx. 10 cars, but Tavistock has many good value car parks 10 minute walk away, so not a major problem.

Amazing food , lovely atmosphere would eat here everyday of the week if my wife would allow me

The Blacksmiths Arms

Lamerton, Tavistock PL19 8QR, UK – 01822 612962

Had a lovely meal, horseshoe Gammon, mushrooms, tomato, salad , onion rings and chips , very well presented and friendly and attentive staff. Well worth a visit if you are in the area , my first visit and very impressed. Thank you all for a great evening.

A real country free house. The original building is quite small but a tasteful extension has been added.A wide menu, plus specials, takes it beyond normal pub food.Good choice of drinks.Benifits from a large car park and a winter fire makes it cosy. Excellent

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Colcharton Farm B&B

Colcharton Farm, Gulworthy, Tavistock PL19 8HU, UK – 01822 616435

With a bit of difficulty, found our farm stay in Tavistock, Devon. It is a stunner, as the spaciousness & luxuriousness are right up there, it has a sweet cottage garden, & best of all, is a 16th Century Elizabethan longhouse, with Victorian wing added. Very rural. Woke to cows. Room accomodation very agreeable. Felt pampered. Great bathroom. Meandering old house, with formal dining room complete with impressive period furniture, huge farmhouse kitchen, & suntrap conservatory overlooking back garden. Old longbarn in partial use & partial dilapidation, pretty interesting. He looks after the farm; she looks after the guests (very well). She is also an enthusiastic gardener, so the setting is worth a wander. The two cats were farm cats, i.e. not house inhabitants, & not exactly pampered pets, either. I think they earned their keep around the barn. Overall, very comfortable indeed. The hostess was very conversable & welcoming.

Excellent Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast in area of Dartmoor National Park and Devon Tourist spots. Lovely 16th century award winning Guest House. Paul Davies.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Old Tavistock Railway Station

Quant Park, Tavistock PL19 0JQ, UK – 01822 610136

Wonderful place. Beautifully decorated, great location, lovely views and warm welcome. Still retains lots if features from the original station.

These cottages have the most lovely views of Dartmoor, but they are also very handy for Tavistock town centre, which has some great little independent shops. I thought they were further out than they are, looking at the map before visiting but they are just up the hill, just out of the way enough that they are nice and peaceful. They are rather beautifully fitted out too. Re: the other review about railways: this is actually Tavistock North station - if you look at the proposed re-opening of the Plymouth line, if that happens, it will go in at the other end of the town!

Tavistock Holiday Cottage

56 West St, Tavistock PL19 8JZ, UK – 07890 284470

Very Cold in the winter, so you'll need to buy some logs to run the fire which has a back boiler, we used x3 bags in 2 days, also only single glazed windows so a bit loud at night Nice place / area would go back in the Spring/Summer

CCC...clean...comfortable...convenient. Lovely little cottage 5 mins walk into the town. Perfect for that Devon Break you always promised yourself.

Campsites and Caravan Parks

The Old Rectory Caravan & Camping Park

The Old Rectory, Gulworthy, Tavistock PL19 8JA, UK – 01822 481731

Nice laid back site in beautiful countryside. Facilities need updating but the new owners are on the case. Owners friendly and helpful.

We have had a lovely stay at this very friendly family orientated site. The pitches are generous in size and screened off between them. The owners are constantly improving the facilities and the guests are actively encouraged to partipate in the feeding of the animals. We thoroughly recommend the Old Rectory whether you are a camper caravanner or want a cottage or pod.

Harford Bridge Holiday Park

Peter Tavy, Tavistock PL19 9LS, UK – 01822 810349

I booked an electric hook-up pitch for my caravan for a quick one night stay as we were going to a gig in Tavistock. When we arrived on site, on entering the reception building, the lady greeted me by name even before I had said anything. She had noted my registration number as I pulled up and got my name from the booking which I thought was a nice touch. The welcome was very friendly and everything about the park was explained very well. The pitch we were given was absolutely idyllic. We pitched up in a large meadow adjacent to the river, with nobody else around. It was nothing short of stunning, with wildlife absolutely everywhere and perfect peace and quiet, only broken by the babbling of the River Tavy. Facilities on site were excellent although we didn't stay long enough to really make good use of them. We will make sure to change this later in the year and come back to this beautiful site for a longer stay.

Brilliant Holiday Park kids loved it. Spotless showers, friendly staff. We was lucky to see the worst thunder and lightening i have ever seen. Brilliant!!!
