Morwellham Sheds & Garden Furniture

Unit 2C, Lower Westbridge Industrail Estate, Tavistock PL19 8DE, UK – 01822 612857

We decided to go looking for a garden bench and already knew which direction we would go which took us over the river Tamar into Devon. Having visited a couple of 'outlets' we weren't particularly impressed by the products or the prices ! When we visited Morwellham Sheds & Garden Furniture in Tavistock we found exactly what we were after. The standard of the products here are outstanding ! Good solid, sturdy garden furniture very well made and very reasonable prices compared to what we had seen elsewhere. The bench we bought there and then was delivered the very next evening ! Excellent product and excellent service ! Highly recommended.

WalkingWorld.jpg
Another good walking guide. Walkingworld has huge library of guides with a good selection of walks, of varying lengths and grades, pretty well anywhere in the UK. The walks come in an excellent format making them very easy to follow, with photographs to illustrate every important decision point and a proper Ordnance Survey map.

A modist annual subscription gives you unlimited access to all the walks. However you can Pay As Go by downloading indiviual walks. You get one walk free.

Crucially you can also find walks France, Spain, Norway, Portugal and Australia!

Camping and Caravaning

The Old Rectory Caravan & Camping Park

The Old Rectory, Gulworthy, Tavistock PL19 8JA, UK – 01822 481731

Amazing place to stay really enjoyed every moment and will definately return. Set in the heart of the tamar valley means that there is plenty to do for all the family. Lovely walks and views around. The campsite has lovely pitches some of which are private meaning they are hedged all the way around. Others are just standard pitches but very well kept. The showers and toilet facilities are a little disappointing with only 2 showed for male and female and one disable shower and toilet. The owners are some of the nicest people on earth and will help you with anything. I really recommend this place highly and defiantly will come back.

Nice place and conditions,l. Located quite distant from most of the attractive points of Devon and Cornwall. The glamping pods are a pleasant experience, but far from worthing the price.

Harford Bridge Holiday Park

Peter Tavy, Tavistock PL19 9LS, UK – 01822 810349

This is a well run family 3holiday village. Just to the north Of Tavistock. And is mentained to a high standard. And is popular with visiting campers. And caravans. The holiday village has good range of good quality facilities. Part of the site had a number of static caravans.

Really lovely site - clean and tidy - good facilities - you can order fish and chips and pastries for breakfast. Great kids play area. Need to keep an eye on the kids if camped next to the river.

Dog People find this is such a great website. Snake bites

Most snake bites in the UK are not serious. But it's important to get all snake bites checked as soon as possible.

Call 999 or go to A&E immediately if:

  • you think you, or someone else, has been bitten by a snake

Find your nearest A&E

Information:

If you're not in the UK when you are bitten by a snake, contact the emergency medical services in the country you're in.

Get foreign travel advice on GOV.UK

What to do while you're waiting for help

Do

  • stay calm, most snake bites in the UK are not serious and can be treated

  • keep the part of your body that was bitten as still as you can

  • lie in the recovery position if you can

  • take paracetamol for any pain

  • try to remember the colour and pattern of the snake to tell the doctor

  • take off any jewellery and loosen clothes near the bite, in case it swells

Don’t

  • do not go near the snake, or try to catch or kill it

  • do not try to suck or cut the poison (venom) out of the bite

  • do not tie anything tightly round the part of the body where the bite is

  • do not take aspirin or ibuprofen, as they can make bleeding worse

What happens at the hospital

You will usually need to stay in hospital for at least 24 hours if you have been bitten by a snake.

The bite will be cleaned and bandaged. You may be given an injection to help protect you from tetanus.

If you were bitten by a poisonous (venomous) snake you will be treated with a medicine to fight the venom. This is given through a thin tube into a vein, called a drip.

Types of UK snake

Only 3 types of snake are found in the wild in the UK.

The adder is the only venomous snake, but you should get all snake bites checked as soon as possible.

Telling the doctors the colour and pattern of the snake that bit you could help them treat it.
